“It happened in those days that Jesus came from Nazareth to Galilee and was baptized in the Jordan by John.” (Mark 1:9)  ” I baptize you in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” (From the rite of Baptism)

Baptism is the first of the seven sacraments to be received. It is sometimes understood as a “door” which gives access to the other sacraments. In Baptism we become members of the family of God, the community of disciples of Jesus, the Church.

Preparation for Baptism
The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults process begins in the fall. Contact Sister Sharon to begin the process.

The Godparent/Sponsor accompanies the person preparing for Baptism through the initiation program. As a representative of the Church, they are baptized, confirmed and a practicing Catholic.

Receiving the Sacrament
The person will receive their Sacraments at the Easter Vigil (the night before Easter.)

Preparation Class
The one-time class is arranged through Sister Sharon. The class is required for parents, recommended for godparents.

Parents should be willing to commit to raising a child as a Catholic.

Godparents are to be a guide and support for the Faith life of the one to be Baptized.  Godparents should be confirmed practicing Catholics in good standing with the Catholic Church.  Only one Godparent is required but two are recommended.  If desired, a second person that does not meet these requirements can participate and will be entitled a Christian witness on the Baptismal certificate.
