Faith Formation Updates

Dear Parents,

With all the uncertainty of the virus and its effects for schooling, gatherings, classes, and Church we are in the process of figuring out what is the best thing to do for Sacramental Preparation and the requirement of Liturgy of the Word (called Nazareth program) for the year of sacramental preparation for 3rd through 5th grade.  The schedule and requirements are different for the older students and are still being worked out.

Right now the tentative plan for 3rd through 5th grade students seeking First Communion and Confirmation:

  1. Offer our traditional Nazareth program starting in Mid October at the 9:30 and 11 o’clock Masses.  This means during the Sunday Mass the students come out of Mass to learn the message of the Sunday readings on their level.  They then return after the homily for the rest of Mass with their families.  The room for Nazareth will have socially distanced tables and chairs, each child will have their own box of supplies so no need to share, and use hand sanitizer before we begin each class.  After each session the tables and chairs will be sanitized.
  2. For families that are uncomfortable bringing their children to Sunday Mass, Sr. Sharon will have material for them to do at home to help them understand the message of Jesus. The material will need to be completed and returned regularly.
  3. Sharon would like to make some kind of connection with the children who do not come attend Nazareth via zoom calls or something like that.
  4. Starting in January (if its possible) we would begin Sacramental preparation classes for a parent and a child. I think we need to plan on it being just one parent and no siblings for the classes.  We will have many tables and be able to practice social distancing and sanitize before and after each session.

For students seeking only Nazareth this year:

Students must register (due to the virus no walk-ins) this year.  Please make a $10 donation for supplies for this year as each registered student will receive their own box of supplies. The room for Nazareth will have socially distanced tables and chairs, each child will have their own box of supplies so no need to share, and use hand sanitizer before we begin each class.  After each session the tables and chairs will be sanitized.

For students in Middle School and High School seeking sacraments of First Communion and/or Confirmation:

The program will begin in October.  We are still in the process of working out the details and schedule.
