“It happened in those days that Jesus came from Nazareth to Galilee and was baptized in the Jordan by John.” (Mark 1:9)  ” I baptize you in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” (From the rite of Baptism)

Baptism

Baptism is the first of the seven sacraments to be received. It is sometimes understood as a “door” which gives access to the other sacraments. In Baptism we become members of the family of God, the community of disciples of Jesus, the Church.

Congratulations on the birth of your child!  We hope this is a time of great blessing for you and your entire family. The Church looks forward to baptizing new members. Every parish is tasked with the privilege and duty to baptize those who have been born into families that live within its parish boundaries or who have established themselves as parishioners in another way.

If you are a Catholic and you live within the boundaries of Holy Family, although you are a “parishioner by default” we will register you as part of the preparation for baptism. Our parish boundaries are 35th Avenue on the South to 52nd Avenue on the North and from Sheridan Blvd. on the West to Meade St. on the East. If you live outside of these boundaries but are an established member of the parish (registered for at least 8 months and attending regularly) then we are also able to baptize your child. Sr. Sharon Ford will guide you through the process and she can be contacted below.

If you have not established membership here at Holy Family and do not live within our parish boundaries, please contact our office and we will be happy to tell you which parish you live within and give you the contact information for that parish so that you may begin the process of having your child baptized there.

Godparents                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                    Parents choose Godparents for the child to help them grow in their faith. Therefore, the Godparents need to be practicing Confirmed Catholics. This means they should be registered in a parish and regularly attend services. They should have received the sacraments of the Eucharist and Confirmation. They need to be at least 16 years of age.
